La Bastille : a balcony over the Alps

Sappey-en-Chartreuse

At the gates of the Vercors
Discover a thousand-year-old hydrogeological heritage! Listed among the « seven wonders of Dauphiné » since the end of the Middle Ages, the Cuves de Sassenage cave has very early on attracted the curious to the region, inspiring many popular beliefs and legends…
Shaped several million years ago by the underground river Germe, Les Cuves cave offers you an unusual underground visit. Its narrow passages, its Flint Gallery or its impetuous river promise you an unforgettable journey to the center of the Earth! Little extra, discover the legend of the fairy Mélusine, mysterious inhabitant of the cave, thanks to the sound and light show. Access is by a pleasant path which will reveal, by taking the other bank for the descent, magnificent views of the Furon torrent and its waterfalls.

The car park is an average 15-minute walk from the entrance to the site, with a 100-metre drop. Difficulty of progress: Cave of a sporting nature with many stairs and certain passages with low ceilings. Possibility of caving or canyon visits, themed visits.
